For a little relaxation on my holiday weekend, I decided to try out the new pattern from #Forever18Inches, Swing Time Halter Dress & Top.
I chose fabric with patriotic colors and a butterfly and flower design. I originally cut out the View 1 dress as my fat quarter did not stretch far enough for the View 2 ruffles and I only had one. I was able to get everything but the lining pieces cut out from the fat quarter.
Then I started thinking maybe I'd do something different and make the top instead. I've been doing a lot of dresses lately and here was a chance to deviate. So I cut the skirt piece off at the cutting lines for the top.
Then I started second guessing my decision, but it was already too late. I had cut the fabric. So I started to wonder if there was a way to put it back together without compromising the look and realized that I could stitch a piece of lace between the two edges and put the skirt back together. And add a decorative detail at the same time. However after consulting my "experts", we decided that it would be more fun as a top that could be styled many different ways than as a dress.
I used a blue ribbon for the straps/ties as my fat quarter did not stretch far enough to cut out the fabric straps.
