Flowered UK Holiday Top

To go with her new coat, we decided to make Kaylie the #LibertyJaneCompany UK Holiday Top and leggings.

The the top was cut from a fat quarter with a large flower design, despite the pattern being for knits as we didn't have a cute knit print available.  The neckline, sleeves and waist have elastic.  Our top ended up blousing over the elastic casing.

The leggings were cut from a red tank top we found on clearance.

Red Stratford Swing Coat

So Kaylie's birthday is coming up.  While planning what she might want for  her birthday, the #LibertyJaneClothing Stratford Swing coat was the freebie Friday pattern.

The Stratford Swing coat looked like a fun challenge so we chose a red fabric and sparkly red buttons as red is her favorite color.

This pattern is definitely not for a beginner. The coat has welt pockets, triangle seams, and pleats in the back.  All the fun details that make something cute, but difficult to put together.

1960s Ava Dress

Lately it seems like I'm getting very little sewing done around everything else.  Fortunately, the new Eden Ava Couture 1960s Ava Dress for #AmericanGirlDoll on #PixieFaire was a quick and easy pattern to put together.

I found a cute red and orange print in the fat quarters that had a bit of that 60s feel to it.  Then because I had only purchased one of the fat quarters, I used a red polka dot fabric for the lining.  Instead of doing a contrasting top and skirt, I cut both out in the print.

The dress features a sweetheart neckline, an empire waist and is sleeveless. It is also fully line and unzips down the back.

I put a red lace trim across the waist seam.  And then Ellie used the lace to create a headband.

We paired the dress with black tights and black shoes for the pictures.

High Low Keyhole Dress

When the girls caught sight of the high low hem version of Clarisse's Closet Keyhole Dress from #PixieFaire, they suggested with the right fabrics it would make a cute party dress.

After some discussion, we decided on a lavender satin for the main dress with a sparkled sheer overlay.  Then for the yoke and high low hem instead of doing a contrasting fabric, we'd use a sparkle netting under the sheer overlay.

The end result, a sheer yoke and a sheer hemline.

To pull this off, I deviated from the instructions slightly.  For the yoke, I stitched the keyhole section and the neckline with the facing to the right side of the sheer.   Next I turned the piece inside out.  For the lower section of the keyhole, I stitched the right side of the sheer to the wrong side of the satin.  Then clipped the seam, turned it to the inside and top stitched.  Then I stitched the yoke to the lower bodice and top stitched the seams and the top side of the keyhole.  I also stitched the right side of the sheer to the wrong side of the back piece at the neckline, clipped the seam and turned it inside. After top stitching the neckline, I was back in line with the pattern directions.

For the high low section of the skirt, I also adjusted the directions by stitching the netting to the right side of the sheer at the hem and then turning the seam to the inside for a cleaner finish with the sheer fabric.

After completing the lavender one, the girls decided instead they each needed one in their favorite colors.  So the process was repeated in pink and then in red.

Spring Fling

Now that my sewing room is almost put back together, I took on another test pattern for #welliewishers.

The Spring Fling dress by Di's  Dolly Designs on #PixieFaire is a simple low waist dress with petal sleeves.

I picked out a purple flowered print and white ribbon.

The bodice has a simple faced neckline.  The sleeves are edged with a white bias tape as I couldn't easily locate the correct size ribbon in my stash.

The skirt is an aline and attaches to the low waist line of the bodice.  This seam is accented with a ribbon belt.
